The laws that are broken in Monroe County

When someone is homeless it is a big deal, especially when it involves children and the disabled. most of the time homelessness occurs because the person is in a tough bind whether it be emotional, mental, physical or all together. Even domestic violence, it is still havoc. So when you are in these situations you go to Human services for help. It is their job to determine the best outcome for you. As long as you abide by their requirements you can be eligible for services. But what happens when those very services are denied based on discrimination and or failing to give a damn about you based on their prejudices on Welfare? When a law is passed it is then passed down with a limited amount of grants to states to be branched out to other government agencies throughout each County. Then the workers that are working in these agencies then offer these grants to those who need it. Well, those laws do not apply in Monroe County, they pick and choose who they will offer help to because the job market is practically null and so mostly everyone who is eligible gets denied based on lame excuses like, "oh you need receipts of where you spent your $60.00 this week before we can give you shelter." Other counties within New york wouldn't even think of saying something like that to you unless they want to be out of a job. But here, they feel justified. I am not homeless, but a family member I know, is and is trying to get herself together. She used to work, drive and go to school. But she has mental illnesses that progressed over the years. I had to beg a Psychiatrist to help her, and they rolled their eyes and said, "Fine." When she tried to drive her car off a cliff, it was like they were HOPING she do herself off.

Let's be logical here and come up with reasons as to why they would deem someone unfit for emergency services? Ok, if you have a bank account with more than $800.00 then they may say, you can get a room and settle there. I can totally go with that idea. But if someone has less than $100.00 a week on living expenses, homeless and a car with little gas I may say, "Eh...we can do something for you".So if the county is on a tight stretch on who can receive services they better have a good reason for turning someone away from help. So, in this case it wasn't. I ended up contacting other people with mental health services and told them the situation. Oh boy...the gentleman was all over this like white on rice. And even got the head director of human services to do a three way with my relative to determine her outcome. And waiting on that at the moment. Now here is the twist,  if you have any cash on you they will not help you with emergency services, however that is not how the regulations work. Monroe County Social services workers pick and choose who they will help and disregard those in need for whatever their reasoning is, I can never be sure. all I know is it gets tiring to have to go to the proper channels to get help, I don't want to burn that option out so it needs to be a one time thing.

The ways of Rochester NY is sad. So many crooked politicians and little common sense everything here is for personal gain, so if Social services helps someone they're doing it because the person they chose has something they want. I'm guessing your integrity. Because nothing more evil than a bunch of sarcastic people who have no regard to your well being.

***********
I am still waiting on that call. I can't wait to finish school and get out of Rochester.
